CRAIG MT TROUT TOWN

Craig Montana Missouri River's Best Trout Fishing

Food, Bars, and Non-Fishing Activities

____________________________________________________________________

Craig Bar - a.k.a. Uncle Joe's

Craig Bar: Uncle Joe's World Famous Guide Bar

Joe's Bar has been a favorite post fishing hangout for many guides and locals since well before Craig became a destination flyfishing town. Cheap cocktails, cold beer, awful bar snacks, mixed in with great service provide a unique and very small town experience. Located next to The Trout Shop Cafe and stumbling distance from local accomodations make Joe's a must stop for most after a sobering day fishing the Missouri. Stop in and say hello to Michelle, Lori, Sid, and the rest of the gang.

Izzak's Restaurant and Bar

Izaak's Bar, Food, and Fine Dining, Craig MT

The Fisherman's favorite place for full Lunch and Dinner service in a comfortable environment with a Non-Smoking Bar and Restaurant. Sporting a consistant and creative menu, Izzak's offers anything from 1/2# burgers to succulent Bison Porterhouse Steaks, Filet Mignon, Proscuitto and Basil Stuffed Chicken, and my favorite, the rack of Domestic Lamb! Try the best chicken wings in the entire world. Sweet and spicy, large meaty wings, that you too will fall in love with! Chef's John & Melanie Heckart strive to make your flyfishing stay in Craig better through great food, an impressive wine selection, expertly mixed cocktails, and attentive service. John and Melanie sold the River City Grille on the banks of the Blackfoot River, moved to Craig and have made Izzak's a Blue Ribbon restaurant. We couldn't be happier to see them and have welcomed their hard work and determination to add something Craig didn't have. Try one of John's distinctive specials or his heart warming soups. Melanie bakes the best pies, cakes, and other sweet treats that are often ordered even when you don't have room for dessert. You may have to spend a few evenings at Izzak's to try it all. John and Melanie have taken Izzak's in truly the right direction and have certainly improved Izzak's immensely after some not so successful previous restauranteurs. An enjoyable post fishing spot to tell lies and dream about tomorrow's adventures on the Missouri. LUNCHES AVAILABLE in 2008 May 1st. The best lunch on the river, bar none. No need to sweat this one out. Beats the hell out of the local deli in town. Fresh made to order dymamite offerings that will raise the bar for any other streamside lunch you have ever had, save for elk loin on the BBQ, near the river...that does not count. Open every day at noon and serving late during the fishing season. Winter hours - Thursday-Sunday dinners only. Call for reservations for parties 8 or more. 406/235-3456

The Frenchman & Me - Wolf Creek

The Frenchman and Me has been open for over a century and still serving cold beer, great cocktails, and the most consistant food for miles. It is the oldest business located in the Missouri River Canyon. Tim and Anna Lyn have been at the helm for many years feeding the community as the only local restaurant to stay open all year long. Open at 7 a.m. for breakfast with Nancy at the grill flipping your eggs just how you want them. Many fisherman begin their day here along with the locals drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. Lunches are good too, Burgers, Sanwiches, Home-Made Soups and the best Porkie ever! A porkie is a pork patty fried in tempura batter and served up on a bun. Try it with cheese and bacon for all day long energy. Dinner includes Rib-Eye Steaks, Fish & Chips, a great 8 oz. Steak Sandwich with salad and fries for around $10. Rhoda generally stirs up some kind of special, so check out the chalkboard. The Frenchman and Me is worth the stop and open all year from 7 a.m. til around 10 p.m. for dinner, later for bar service.

Canyon Store - Wolf Creek

The Canyon Store open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., til 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday offering gas, diesel, propane, beer, wine, canned goods, milk, some produce, frozen meats, ice cream, chips, and almost all the stuff you forgot at home. Well stocked shelves provide you with many options to stuff your cooler full for a liesurely day on the river. Cash Machine/ATM on site and gas available 24 hrs. with bankcard.
